Aiya Van Kooten everyone
When Aiya Van Kooten stood face-to-face with a burglar in her bedroom, her left eye twitched, then she went into “predator mode”.
“I screamed at him… jumped off my chair, leaped over my bed and sprinted after him down the stairs,” she said.
This is the best story of my life
“Although she was the only one home, Van Kooten said she had no regard for her safety - instead, she said she was just overwhelmed with “rage“….. ummmmm Hero!!!
Haha, badass Muslim woman. Love it!!!
This lady is so awesome. She lives with her grandma and was studying and had a towel on her head and no shoes but she chased them out of her garden, kicked one up the arse as he climbed a fence, they dropped a camera and laptop, she flagged down a passing driver to help her continue the pursuit, and it turned out he was ex-military, and they finally caught one of them in a park and pinned him as the police arrived. Now she’s going to visit the burglar in prison for the next few months to help with his rehabilitation.
So in summary:
This lady doesn’t just defend her home and loved ones, she will hunt you down, team up with other skilled individuals, get you put away, and then teach you the consequences of your actions until you’re a valuable member of society once more.
Seriously she’s a frigging superhero.
Amazing posters from the Australian Human Rights Commission’s “Know the Line” campaign which aims to prevent and reduce the harm of sexual harassment in Australian workplaces.

I like that it says you know where the line is because lack of knowledge is not the problem. It’s that men think they are above punishment.

(It makes me smile how many people seem to relate to this or just enjoy it in general.)
It took me entirely too long to put together that these were you.
In 1923, Rosewood was a primarily Black town in Florida. One day a White woman living in a nearby town had been beaten and robbed. Afraid they would find the real attacker who was her husband, she told police and her town residents that it was a Black man. Immediately a mob of White men and women took to the streets to find the so called attacker. The first Black Man they ran into was Sam Carter. He was tortured relentlessly until he admitted to participating in the White woman’s attack. After being forced to admit something he did not do, they shot him in the head in front of his wife. This was not enough and they continued their reign of terror. The mob traveled across town killing and burning down any and everything they saw in their sight. They burned houses, stores, and almost all the BLACK CHURCHES. Eventually the Black town residents had enough and they began to fight back but this did not amount to much because the Mob had grown too big. The most disturbing event of the entire standoff was the murder of a 4 year old Black girl. As the little girl lay over her mother’s dead body crying, two members of the white mob grabbed her by her ankles and threw her into a nearby burning building. Days later after the town was deserted and things calmed down, the mob returned to check for survivors and burn anything else they had missed. The Rosewood Massacre is something that is rarely spoken of these days. Over 150 Black Residents were killed; many of their bodies found hanging from trees. Very few of the Black Residents managed to escape and others would never return to the land they had spent their whole lives developing. White people have committed the most atrocious acts the world could ever imagine against Black people. Don’t ever let them convince you to forget.

This is what they call fun and games. Go look up the origins of the term “picnic” and then look up “gator bait.”
this is a disability issue, a chronic illness issue, a traumatic illness issue, a feminist issue - this should disturb everyone.
A reminder: they appointed a lawyer for the fetus but did not appoint one for Angela. This is what we mean when we say that the anti-choice movement does not see us as people.
do not sexualize young girls.
yes, I am kink shaming you.
because you should be ashamed of yourself
for sexualizing young girls, and
no one’s sexual liberation is more important
than protecting young girls.

The World Health Organization stated last week that for the first time, it “strongly recommends” that men who have sex with men prevent HIV infection using antiretroviral drugs, in addition to condoms.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, a daily pill marketed as Truvada in the United States, has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection in high-risk individuals by up to 92% if taken consistently. So far Truvada is the only PrEP drug approved by the FDA. Health care providers emphasize that condoms should still be used to prevent the spread of other STDs.
The health agency said that new prevention options such as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) — currently in the form of a daily pill containing two drugs — are needed alongside condom use to reduce HIV infection rates among men who have sex with men, a key population in which infection rates remain high. The agency clarified the recommendation Monday, however, stating that it was not recommending that all men who have sex with men must or should begin PrEP treatment as incorrectly reported by some media outlets.
“The recommendation states that PrEP should be considered as an additional choice for preventing HIV infection alongside and together with the use of condoms and other prevention options,” WHO said in a statement to BuzzFeed explaining the recommendation. “Essentially, this is about choice — in the same way that WHO recommends different contraception options for women WHO wants to support offering gay men the full range of prevention options to suit their circumstances and not exclude any options that are evidenced based.”
Basically, it’s a really big deal for the WHO to make a widespread suggestion advocating this medication. I haven’t talked about it much here, but it’s clear that PrEP is going to mean something huge for HIV/AIDS in our communities, and this is one telling piece of evidence.

So my friend is an artist who is working on a project that revolves around raising awareness for victims of sexual assault and abuse. He is looking for personal stories to include in it. If anyone is interested just go ahead and send me an ask and I’ll give you his contact info. Thanks!
